Green Cargo starts a new rail-shuttle connecting to The Port of Helsingborg

Green Cargo’s new service enables higher rail capacity and fast lead times that will provide Nässjö’s, Eskilstuna’s and Årsta’s rail terminals with cargo from Asia and Europe. The first train departed The Port of Helsingborg on January 9 and will have departures from the Port of Helsingborg five times a week, every Monday-Thursday and Sunday.

In a project called IM23, Green Cargo reduces the intermodal traffic to 20 terminals compared to the previous 42. Streamlining the container-borne train traffic to fewer terminals means more filled trainsets with higher profitability, which makes the choice easy. Rail before road – a sustainable alternative in the flow of goods.

– Consolidating our intermodal terminals will bring better capacity to our network for increased volumes by rail. Part of this strategy is to streamline transports from the Port of Helsingborg to Nässjö/Gamlarp and to enable further train transports to Eskilstuna or Stockholm Årsta, where the lead time will be shorter. It is an attractive option to many customers, says Jan Elgström, who is commercially responsible for IM23.

For Green Cargo’s customers, it means better punctuality, efficiency, and faster lead times.

Green Cargo operates in a total of 18 destinations that depart from the Port of Helsingborg every week. There are three permanent train shuttles with a total of 15 departures/per week. For other destinations, train sets are loaded in clusters at The Port and then organized to the respective final destination at the railroad station in Helsingborg.

– Our proximity to the market in southern Sweden and great railway infrastructure connecting to The Port of Helsingborg makes it a natural gateway for goods to be transported by rail. We are happy about the extended service that the new shuttle provides and the increased opportunities to combine sea and rail transport to a greater extent, says Anders Paulsson Key Account Manager at The Port of Helsingborg.
