Previous traffic from Equador and the Dominican Republic to Port of Helsingborg returns under new brand.
The Russian carrier, Baltic Reefers is starting a direct service to Port of Helsingborg that creates new business opportunities in our region. The first vessel arrived Helsingborg the 24th of January and the carrier has now decided to call Helsingborg with a weekly service and every Thursday the vessel will be discharged of reefer containers loaded with bananas from Equador and the Dominican Republic.
Baltic Reefers is a new customer for Port of Helsingborg and the new service contributes to many advantages for Swedish consignees since cargo now will arrive directly to Port of Helsingborg without any transhipments during the voyage. Transit time also improves with at least 1 week compared to current services available in the market. The service has been implemented thanks to a close and creative co-operation between the port, the agent and the carrier.
– It’s very satisfying that the result of our previous co-operation with Cool Carriers, Baltic Reefers daughter company now can continue under Baltic Reefers flag. We are excited to see the service develop and creating competitive solutions for Swedish consignees importing fruit and perishables says Nicklas Romell, CCO Port of Helsingborg.
The bananas will arrive Helsingborg every Thursday and next port of call in the schedule is St Petersburg, Russia. The current volume is 80-100 reefer containers per week, equivalent to 5000 units per year via Port of Helsingborg.
This service will strengthen Port of Helsingborgs position as the leading port for refrigerated cargo in Scandinavia. Recent statistics show that almost every banana consumed in Sweden has arrived via Port of Helsingborg and the steady flow of fruits and vegetables is consistent throughout the year with exception of the citrus peak season between November and March.
The majority of refrigerated cargo arriving in reefer containers needs a specific temp set and atmosphere in the container. Port of Helsingborg offers it’s customers over 400 reefer plugs within the port area in order to immediately connect the reefer containers with power after being discharged from the vessel. This is the largest capacity of all ports in Sweden.
