Navis – one year with the Port’s Terminal Operating System

The past year with Navis has been challenging, eventful, and very educational. After the initial implementation weeks, we followed up with six months of stabilisation work, focusing on minimising the impact on customers and partners. We internally adapted to all the new processes, routines, and workflows that the system change brought — week by week, handling times improved during the first half of the year.

We started with average turnaround times of 40 and 35 minutes, while the proportion of vehicles under 30 minutes was 40 and 48 percent respectively, as seen in the graph below. After six months, the same averages dropped to 24-26 minutes, allowing us to concentrate on further improving the percentage of vehicles processed under 30 minutes.

Optimise and improve

Over the past six months, we’ve focused on optimising our processes and managing new system features. We are analysing and preparing for more considerable optimisation opportunities that will further simplify and improve collaboration. One example is that Navis has enabled us to redesign our yard layout, increasing the overall capacity  — a project we expect to complete by mid-November.
